Client Brief:
The Grumpy Barista sought to transform a previously enclosed conservation building on Henderson Road into an open and inviting café space. The focus was on enhancing the connection to the outdoors with bi-fold windows, creating outdoor seating, and respecting the building’s heritage character while optimizing functionality.
A minimalist interior palette combines terrazzo-inspired tones with abundant greenery, featuring cascading plants, lush foliage, and curated indoor planters. This creates a vibrant, natural atmosphere that softens the modern design.
A modern palette of pastel hues rejuvenates Henderson Road, reflecting the vibrancy of Alexandria while honoring the heritage character of the conservation building. The minimalist color scheme brings a contemporary yet timeless aesthetic.
Bi-fold windows replaced the original static panes, opening the café to the lively street. This transformation creates a dynamic indoor-outdoor flow, complemented by awnings in structural bays for patron comfort.
