RANDWICK HOUSE I |  SULLY ST. RANDWICK | SYDNEY

Randwick House I

A bold, modern addition to a classic home that combines contemporary design with practical functionality, Randwick House I offers outstanding views of Coogee Beach while maintaining privacy and comfort.

The upper floor is a sanctuary for the parents, featuring a private lounge and balcony space that maximises ocean views while shielding the home from neighbouring properties. The architectural approach distinguishes the old structure from the new addition through deliberate but sympathetic contrasts in form and materiality, as well as a clear separation between the ground and first floors. These distinctions create a dynamic yet cohesive design that embraces both tradition and modernity.

Client Brief:

The clients envisioned a modest family home on a compact site that could accommodate their lifestyle needs. On the ground floor, they wanted an open-plan living area seamlessly connecting to an outdoor dining space, perfect for entertaining. Upstairs, the design prioritizes a large master bedroom with a study and a lounge for parents, all oriented to capture panoramic beach views.

A series of detailed renders and models were developed to refine the form, ensuring the new structure respects the scale and privacy of neighbouring homes while standing out as a contemporary addition.

3D Perspective (old joins the new)

A single-story bathroom and balcony bridge the original house and the new addition allowing natural light to flood the stairwell, study and en-suite of the rear extension.

Ground Floor Plan

The design includes a formal entrance and a secondary, practical “day to day” entry leading directly to the kitchen and living area. The covered outdoor dining area and pool can also be accessed from the side. Offering multiple access points gives flexibility to both family living and entertaining.
