Palma Spa and Lido

Reconnecting the city with its coastline, blending heritage with modernist building for the people.

Set at the corner of Palma's historic city wall, the design answers a pressing urban challenge: the disconnect between the city and its waterfront, separated by a highway. By bringing water within the city walls, the proposed public Lido and spa establishes a profound physical and visual bond with the sea. Embracing the stoic nature of Roman baths, the new structure integrates seamlessly with the ancient wall, transforming it into a canvas that respects its legacy while enriching its purpose.

Client Brief:

The brief was shaped by the unique character of the site and its historical context. Drawing inspiration from the Banys Àrabs, a relic of the city’s Moorish heritage, the design fosters a strong architectural dialogue. By integrating the historic city wall, it creates spaces that bridge the public realm, offering expansive views of the beach and a harmonious visual connection between the sea and the urban landscape. This approach revitalizes the community’s bond with its coastal identity.
